Accessible Websites — and Why I Built barrierefreiewebseite.net

Since the European Accessibility Act, accessibility is a legal must for many businesses, not a nice-to-have. Yet few know how their own site scores. That is exactly why I built barrierefreiewebseite.net: enter a URL, see in seconds where it breaks.

Why accessibility matters now

EAA and national laws now require many providers to ship a conformant, operable website. Ignoring screen readers, keyboard navigation and contrast not only excludes people but risks legal action — and wastes SEO, because Google reads the same signals (semantics, alt text, focusable elements).

No overlay widgets, real fixes

Accessibility overlays promise a quick checkmark and fail against real assistive tech. My approach tests against WCAG 2.2 AA, EAA, ADA and EN 301 549 and delivers concrete code corrections instead of cosmetic patches.

How the test works

You enter your URL, the tool crawls the homepage and rates structure, contrast, focus, ARIA and keyboard operation. The homepage check is free; deeper audits cover the whole funnel.

At a glance

  • WCAG 2.2 AA · EAA · ADA · EN 301 549 in one check
  • Verifiable conformance badge
  • Real code recommendations, not an overlay widget
  • Free homepage check

FAQ

Is the check really free?
The homepage check is free, with 3 checks per hour per IP. Full multi-page audits are paid.
Is an accessibility overlay enough for compliance?
No. Overlays do not reliably fix the underlying code issues. Conformance comes from clean semantics, contrast and keyboard operation in the source.
